Eating out can sometimes be a bit of a gamble but we’d heard such good reports of Vincent’s in Eversley Road, Sketty that we sent John, Eric and Lorraine there last week – they were not disappointed so when Ian Griffiths and Carol came over from Suffolk we decided to put our money where our mouth was and give it a try.
Sketty is the village next to Uplands and Dylan’s great friend Daniel Jones lived in Eversley Road. I’m not sure if it was Dylan who coined the saying that Sketty people were “…fur coat and no knickers…” or once declared that “…in Sketty sex is what coal comes in…”. Sadly it’s not so posh but a bit down at heel these days.
We were not disappointed – in fact it was – in the words of Michael Winner “historic”. We all had fish so can recommend the fillet of sea bass, fillet of turbot and the lemon sole all served with a range of vegetables. Dessert for two of us was cheesecake with a mixed fruit jus and two creme brulee. With drinks – around £25 per person.
We were treated by former Swansea boy Ian to a reading of his poem Hanover Street. An hilarious account of his students days in Swansea – magic! Booking at weekends essential but worth a try on spec during the week 01792 281555
